Desktop Gadgets - Desktop Gadgets are Microsoft's implementation of widgets; small specialised applications that are designed to do simple tasks. For example, clocks, calendars, RSS notificators or search tools.

GDesklets - gDesklets is a GNOME program which provides the architecture for small applets or widgets to be placed on top of the user's desktop. This program is similar to Konfabulator, Dashboard, DesktopX for Windows, or SuperKaramba for KDE.

IRIX Interactive Desktop - IRIX Interactive Desktop (originally called Indigo Magic) is a desktop environment normally used as the default desktop on Silicon Graphics workstations running IRIX. The IRIX Interactive Desktop uses the Motif widget toolkit on top of the X Window System found on most Unix systems.

Intra-desktop search - Intra-desktop search is a method of searching for files and resources across two or more desktops.
